I Don’t have to, I get to!

My fitness journey started at the age of 14. I was a boxer then transitioned to M.M.A and did that for just about 7 years, with some downtime on and off I didn’t have much money and the gym I trained at was the next town up north. During that time I was in the gym doing conditioning that pertained to my martial arts training i.e. circuits, a lot of bodyweight movement, and kettlebells, all very functional things. I then got into some traditional weight training as I was trying to put on weight and get bigger.

I’ve been a type 1 diabetic(insulin-dependent) since I was 5 years old so I’ve always been aware of my health except for some time as a teenager. When I was 19-20 I started to have complications with my eyes(proliferated diabetic retinopathy) and lost my sight for some time.  Once I had my surgeries and recovered, I found my way back to the gym but was bored with the traditional lifting.

I then found out you can compete in functional fitness and was all in after that. Now not only do I get to fill that competitive drive but I get the opportunity to better myself daily by doing something I absolutely love.

Since we opened chaos and I have been able to coach and share my love of fitness with great people I couldn’t be happier. Coaching is definitely a rewarding experience seeing a member learn a new skill or beat their previous best on a lift FIRES ME UP! It makes me want to continue to become a better myself and a better coach.
